# Google Calendar

> List, create, update, and delete Google Calendar events and check free/busy availability via OAuth

The **Google Calendar** toolkit lets agents list and manage calendar events, create or update meetings, check free/busy availability, and list calendars the user can access. Authentication is **per-user OAuth** — each user connects their own Google account.

Add it on the agent **Toolkits** tab. The first use prompts the user to connect Google if they have not already. Calendar shares the Google Workspace OAuth connection with Gmail, Drive, Docs, and related Google toolkits.

## Prerequisites

* A Google account with Calendar access
* An agent you can edit
* Google OAuth configured for your organization (admin)
* Users who will chat with the agent must complete the Google OAuth connect flow when prompted

## Setup

1. Open the agent → **Toolkits** → add **Google Calendar**.
2. Optionally enable or disable individual tools in toolkit config.
3. Save the agent. In **Chat**, connect Google when prompted.
4. `@`-mention Calendar tools in the personality prompt for scheduling and availability tasks.

## Available tools

| Tool | Description |
| ---------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **List Events** | Lists events with optional time range, search query, ordering, and result limit (capped at 250). Expands recurring instances. |
| **Get Event** | Returns full details for a single event (attendees, recurrence, reminders, and more). |
| **Create Event** | Creates an event with summary, start/end, and optional description, location, attendees, and time zone. |
| **Update Event** | Partially updates summary, times, description, location, or time zone. |
| **Delete Event** | Deletes an event. |
| **List Calendars** | Lists calendars available to the connected user (roles, colors, primary flag, and more). |
| **Check Availability** | Returns free/busy information for one or more calendar IDs. |

Most tools default to the **primary** calendar when no calendar ID is provided.

## Use cases

* Find open slots before proposing a meeting
* Create or update events from chat with attendees and location
* Summarize upcoming events in a date range
* Confirm which calendars the signed-in user can access

## Tips

* Prefer RFC3339 timestamps (or date-only `YYYY-MM-DD` for all-day events).
* Time zone: the toolkit uses the user’s Calendar timezone when times omit a zone; pass an explicit time zone only when needed.
* Attendee emails must be valid; required and optional attendee lists must not overlap.
* Access is limited to what the **connected Google user** can see on their calendars.
* For Outlook calendar, use [Microsoft Outlook](/agents/toolkits/microsoft-365).

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | What to check |
| ----------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Google OAuth not connected | Complete the Google connect prompt; try disconnecting and connecting again |
| Empty event list | Confirm calendar ID (default is `primary`) and time range filters |
| Cannot create or update | Connected account needs edit access on that calendar |
| Wrong times shown | Check time zone on the event and the user’s Calendar settings |
| Free/busy empty or incomplete | Confirm calendar IDs and that the calendars are shared with the connected user |
