# Agent Manager Toolkit

> Create, list, update, clone, validate, and test agents in a project from Autopilot or an agent that has Agent Manager enabled

The **Agent Manager** toolkit lets you create and manage agents in a project: generate from a prompt or config, list and inspect agents, update personalities and toolkits, validate configuration, and run mocked end-to-end tests. It does not use OAuth or an API key — access is based on your EKB project membership and **Agents** permissions.

This toolkit is mainly used from **Autopilot (Build mode)** and similar build surfaces. It is not meant to be nested onto every agent as a normal customer integration (you cannot attach Agent Manager onto an agent you create through Agent Manager itself).

## Prerequisites

* Permission to edit agents in the target project (**Agents** edit for create/update/delete/clone/test)
* Project membership for read-only operations (list, get, validate, connection checks)
* When working from the read-only Autopilot system project, always choose a **target project** for create and mutate operations

## Available tools

| Tool | Description |
| --------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Get Available Toolkits** | Lists toolkit names and descriptions from the platform registry (excludes Agent Manager). |
| **Create Agent from Prompt** | Creates an agent from a natural-language description. Requires a target project. |
| **Create Agent from Config** | Creates an agent from an explicit name, personality, toolkits JSON, and options (temperature, agent type, output format, optional MCP servers). |
| **List Agent Templates** | Lists built-in agent templates. |
| **List Agents** | Lists agents in a project. |
| **Get Agent** | Returns full details for one agent. |
| **Clone Agent** | Clones an agent under a new name. |
| **Delete Agent** | Permanently deletes an agent. |
| **Update Agent** | Replaces personality and/or the full toolkits configuration. |
| **Get Agent Toolkits** | Lists toolkits attached to an agent. |
| **Search Agent Toolkits by Name** | Finds toolkits on an agent by name pattern. |
| **Get Agent Toolkit by ID** | Returns one toolkit config by id or index. |
| **Get Toolkit Schema** | Returns schema/examples for a toolkit, or lists toolkit names when no name is passed. |
| **Validate Agent** | Validates agent config and/or toolkits (`config`, `toolkits`, or `full`). |
| **Test Agent** | Generates and runs an end-to-end test with mocked external integrations and a real LLM. |
| **Get Connection Requirements** | Reports OAuth/API-key status for toolkits on an agent so you can finish connections. |

## Use cases

* Scaffold a support or research agent from a short description in Autopilot Build mode
* Clone a proven agent, then adjust personality and toolkits
* Validate toolkit config before publishing an agent
* Check which connections are still missing after attaching Gmail, Jira, or similar toolkits

## Tips

* Always set the **target project** for create/update/delete when you are not already inside that project (required from the Autopilot default project).
* Prefer **Validate Agent** before relying on a newly built agent in production chats.
* **Delete Agent** is permanent — confirm the agent id and project first.
* MCP secrets (API keys, Authorization headers) are stored via the platform secrets path, not as plain text in the agent JSON.
* For day-to-day chat with an existing agent, you do not need Agent Manager on that agent — use it on the build side only.

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | What to check |
| ------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Cannot create or update agents | Your role needs **Agents** edit on the project |
| Errors about default / Autopilot project | Pass an explicit target project id for mutating tools |
| Toolkit not exposed / cannot attach Agent Manager | Expected — Agent Manager cannot be installed onto agents it creates |
| Test Agent results look incomplete | External integrations are mocked; focus on personality and local tool behavior |
| Connection requirements still failing | Complete OAuth or API-key setup for the listed toolkits, then re-check |
